Overview
Read daily news on energy market and competitors and upload to sharepoint. Worked closely with two other members in my team and I had a manager. I had two projects which I focussed on, looking at competitor's financial reports and renewable products where I used excel. Weekly we also produce a newsletter which I worked with members of my team.
Skills
Developed my excel skills a lot more through online courses which the company promoted. Worked well with time management and independence as well which was important working from home a lot of the time. Communication was also very important both written for the newsletter and verbally within my team. I would have liked to develop my technical skills more which some analysts did using PowerBI potentially and my presentation skills.
Responsibilities
Yes, with my projects I was set a brief and then I was able to carry them out independently for a few weeks till I began to struggle with the task and came into some issues. I then worked with another member of my team.
Support & Guidance
There is so much support throughout the company for the interns. Firstly the early careers team who were there to support me when I had a couple of issues with my manager. The early careers team go above and beyond for us all. You are also appointed a buddy in the same stream and we organised bi-weekly catch ups. We also have two general team managers who are there for guidance and support.
Culture
Very welcoming, supportive and flexible for your needs. The early careers team genuinely care about that and that is shown across the wider business when reaching out to other employees.
Your Impressions
Really enjoyed it and learnt so much about myself. I enjoyed the in person days spending time with other commercial analysts and the other interns.
