Overview
Worked in Procurement under the Business Partner team, however I collaborated heavily with the Projects Portfolio Team. Responsibilities included creating a playbook of suppliers (document of suppliers' contact details and capabilities), assisting in contract creation using Ariba software, and matching categorical codes of purchase orders between two softwares.
Skills
I have develop presenting skills (end-of-internship presentation), communication skills (worked in a team and engaging suppliers), and computing skills (used SAP Ariba, Docusign, Power BI and Excel).
Responsibilities
I was given lots of responsibility - one good example of this is I was tasked with communicating with suppliers in order to understand the services they deliver, regional capability etc. Lots of these suppliers were large and important. I was also tasked with onboarding suppliers onto Ariba software. Although I was definitely given responsibility in my work, it should be noted that sometimes I did find myself with a lack of work, and thus responsibility.
Support & Guidance
Lots. I was surrounded by a friendly team who were always happy to help.
Culture
Very friendly and welcoming. Despite being an intern, I felt valued and were given opportunities to voice my opinions in meetings.
Your Impressions
I very much enjoyed it. Even outside of work, there were plenty of extra-curricular activities Centrica encouraged me to participate in. These ranged from a charity challenge (interns split into groups and tasked with raising awareness for any charity), an opportunity to join networks (e.g. women's network, LGBTQ+, neurodiversity etc., and opportunities to go to networking events.
Yes
I think the most important thing is your personality. If you have a positive attitude and are friendly, that is very desirable. Show you are willing to get stuck in the interview and assessment centre, and be collaborative with others.
