Overview
I was involved with planning engineer engagement events for London and South East (1000 engineers). I had to contact different internal and external stakeholders to persuade them to attend and create a market stall to inform the engineers of the different business areas and what is happening at the company. On top, I shadowed an Area Manager and learnt the process of how to run a team, what skills are effective in certain situations.
Skills
I have developed my leadership style. I feel that the way I communicate has changed, in terms of phrasing, delivery, tone of voice etc. I've improved stakeholder management and how to communicate with different people in different situations. My organisation has improved as a result of having to bring together so many stakeholders, managing my own documents and keeping others up to date with progress.
Responsibilities
From day 1, I was presented with a problem around engagement levels in the firm and given my project to try and alter that. I was allowed throughout to make decisions myself, communicate with people in my own style and what I thought best. I felt trusted to deliver, and provide as much as I could. I was surprised at the level of responsibility given from so early on, that allowed me to feel like I was making a difference and contributing to the company's future
Support & Guidance
So much support. We had such an array of options of people to come to for help. We were given a buddy who was specific to us that we could talk to about anything, that made us feel so welcome. A talent manager was given to oversee the whole process, provide direction and feedback to how well we were doing. The early careers made us supported and guided us from the beginning. Anyone in the company was willing to help and support when you contacted them.
Culture
Unbelievable. Everyone was so motivated to perform, yet so friendly and helpful. When you walk into the building, everyone is engaging with each other, getting on. People are smiling around the office, you can speak to anyone around the office. It feels like a place where you can be yourself everyday, bringing your best everyday and having the platform to deliver the best you can do
Your Impressions
Its been the best time. I never expected to come out of the summer having made so many good memories, felt like I've contributed so much. I could not have asked for a better experience in every areas. I have fallen in love with the company, and the people that work here too. I feel like i have enjoyed the opportunities to learn about myself, learn and develop to the best of my ability.
Yes
Do as best as you can to get in, as you will see the benefits. Once here, take all the opportunities to get the most out of the experience. The more you put in, the more you get out of the experience and you will not regret it.
