Overview
Get in the office for 7am - do some reading on the equity research reports in your sector. Then spend most of the day looking at either a company or an industry, so involves a lot of reading in trying to piece a story together. Once you come nearer to delivering a stock pitch, more focus on forecasting financials and valuations. Leave the office around about 6:30pm
Skills
For certain. A common thing everyone says is that they are good at critically thinking but this division really enhances that as it forces you to really develop a story every day. Also, due to the high complexity of the tasks and importance of the work you are doing, being highly meticulous in everything - whether it be formatting or answering a question, is of utmost importance
Responsibilities
I was given several tasks to complete which had to be to a high quality. Not busy work either but genuine work that needed to be done and would prove useful in furthering the understanding of the stock we were looking at
Support & Guidance
Due to limited training before coming into the office, first few weeks were hard. however, the team is so incredibly friendly that you can literally ask anyone for help on even the smallest issues and they will find time to help. Moreover, HR team very good at responding to requests so were able to set up training sessions on short notice as our final stock pitch started creeping up.
Culture
Really embodies their 6 values. Incredibly cohesive and welcoming environment that makes the work and the long hours far more enjoyable.
Your Impressions
Very fortunate to get a placement in such an uncommon division and I did some really interesting work that has taught me a wide set of skills. Also was fortunate to network and connect from interns and analysts from all over the bank to gain a deeper overall understanding of the career opportunities I have in the future.
Yes
Genuine mix between quality and personality. It is not enough to just be good at the job or smart but you also need to have a sort of kind and welcoming personality, with a strong ability to communicate. This is not the sort of bank with any form of toxic culture.
