Overview
On Rates it was mainly shadowing different people and asking them about what they were working on and seeing their roles and responsibilities. I also completed lots of technical exercises to improve my learning. On CRE I completed a lot of excel cash flow modelling, analysing credit memos, writing summaries of deals and researching different markets for due diligence and credit purposes.
Skills
Yes - confidence, technical ability, how to speak with traders and salespeople, excel, word, powerpoint, time management and independence
Responsibilities
Not much - Rates was more shadowing people and learning from what they were doing. But I was responsible for writing the morning note which is sent to everyone in the bank and clients, and writing up call notes and getting these published across the bank On CRE I researched different market trends to assist with writing credit memos for current ongoing deals.
Support & Guidance
On Rates I found that all the juniors on my desks were very helpful in answering any questions I had during the day. But sometimes the traders and salespeople were very busy during market hours so couldn't answer my Qs but at the end of the day they would be free to answer. On CRE everyone was very happy and willing to answer all the questions I had and assisted me with creating models.
Culture
Very positive - majority of people were very willing to have chats with me and answer my questions. My managers were very supportive and gave me key feedback for my development. My whole intern class was very positive and always happy to help each other out.
Your Impressions
Very much - learnt a lot of skills, improved my networking and got to know a multitude of people who I'll stay in touch with after this Summer
