Overview
Check my emails, Check teams. Respond to any urgent emails or messages. Work on tasks for my manager, this can include data analysis using MS Excel or making clear and coherent slides via Powerpoint. Have lunch, meet up with other interns. Organise coffee chats with colleagues within your team and across finance division to learn more about the different roles and culture.
Skills
I have developed my skills greatly in both powerpoint and excel, as well as soft skills such as public speaking and presenting, I also developed my skills in strong communication and teamwork as I was working with colleagues in Germany, India and Philippines.
Responsibilities
Yes, but not excessive to the point it caused stress. I presented certain slides and completed tasks for VPs and even an MD.
Support & Guidance
We are given a mentor who is not in our direct work and is usually someone senior (AVP and above), and a buddy who is someone who has recently finished the graduate program, so there is a support system in place if you have any questions or just want to talk to someone. The managers are also very helpful.
Culture
Very diverse. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. You can speak to very senior people and it is not as scary as you would think it is.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed my internship very much, from the people to the work. I was never made to feel stupid, everyone answered my questions with openness and sincerity. The work I did was challenging but also stimulating and hence allowed me to develop my technical skills by a significant amount.
Yes
Speak to the people within the bank and hear the honest truth. Understand what "culture" really means and that is not the same in every company. Ask questions you actually want to know the answer to. Be open to criticism and take feedback positively.
