Overview
I worked on two separate projects with the Investment Data Platform team. The projects I worked on: 1. Wrote C# code for the internal data hub. 2. Developed a data/ML pipeline for a business middle office team.
Skills
- Apache Spark. - CI/CD. - Stakeholder management. - Presenting own work. - How to use and transform real world large datasets. - C#
Responsibilities
I was given lead on the data pipeline project, I was expected to reach out to the relavent parties and make key decisions. This project will hopefully form the standard practice for that team as this is their first end to end data/ML pipeline. In short, lots.
Support & Guidance
My manager allowed me to get on with my work for the most part, helping if I got stuck and providing advice on my code style. The rest of the team were happy to help too and gave guidance on their respective specialisms.
Culture
The company culture is very open. Everyone is happy to talk and everyone is very friendly. Management were very accessible. Some teams are very remote based.
Your Impressions
The internship was very rewarding, my manager pushed me to develop and learn. The pipeline project was a very excited and rewarding opportunity to develop soft skills and apply my programming knowledge. This project was found by my manager when I mentioned to her on the first day that I am interested in ML.
Yes
For the tech scheme, programming knowledge isn't required. They test for more of the soft skills. Even in the grad scheme non software engineer rotations are available.
