Overview
As an actuarial consultant intern, a lot of day-to-day role revolves around completing individual member calculations for members who are part of schemes with tricky scheme rules. Furthermore, I have also been able to conduct demographic analysis on a set of members part of a certain scheme. In a normal day, I have an even balance between client work and training, where training mainly revolves around individual calculations.
Skills
I have been able to develop my Excel skills greatly throughout my internship experience as every single piece of work I conduct revolves around Excel. Moreover, I have been able to gain a broader sense of financial acumen, and have also learned how to make aesthetically pleasing presentations for clients.
Responsibilities
I was given a lot more responsibility than expected on my internship placement, being exposed to real client work within the first two weeks of my placement. I was then trusted to complete individual calculations for the remainder of the placement, and furthermore was trusted to edit slides being sent to clients
Support & Guidance
The internship was very well structured in terms of training, meaning that support was always readily available, both in the office and virtually. All staff were very friendly and approachable which contributed positively towards my experience
Culture
The company atmosphere is a fine balance between corporate and relaxed, which also reflects in the culture. Work is completed to a professional standard, with integrity at the core of how WTW operate, however this doesn't prevent staff from being friendly
Your Impressions
I enjoyed this internship a lot more than anticipated. Whilst I had a fairly long commute in to the office, the company culture and work I was exposed to made my experience a memorable one
Yes
Be yourself. WTW fosters a very diverse and inclusive culture, which is extremely important for consulting, where a broad range of perspectives is important. Whilst it is important to be prepared and professional during the recruitment process, there is no need to deviate from your own personality
