    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It took around 6 months for me to feel comfortable in my job role - however once I had a better grasp on the whole thing it was a much better experience

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone at IBM has been really supportive, I work in a team of 2 people however the wider community have shown me great support and friendliness.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager is there to support and assist me however you are expected to go and find answers yourself - it can be hard at first as you don't know who/where to go to...and IBM is a big place...

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Most days there is a great balance with the workload but towards quarter and month ends you will see a peak

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • My task manager was there to support and guide me however I was left to make my own decisions and correct any mistakes

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have been given the opportunity to manage projects, network with people and generally get a feel for what working for an organisation the size of IBM feels like - I really value what I have learnt and I would recommend the scheme to anyone wanting a placement in a corporate environment

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Although everyone is friendly there is always work constraints and often not a lot of flexibility for long lunches etc...the closest social place we could go was a 15 min drive away. People were friendly but understandably busy

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Unfortunately my development manager was changed part way through my placement which was quite unsettling

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • You get out what you put in - nothing is just handed to you but the opportunities are there for you to get. There are lots of online communities to assist with your personal training and development

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There are only a limited number of graduate roles and the ones I am interested in are based at a location I would not be happy moving to

    2/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Some people treated it like they had never left university.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Entry, drinks, food and taxis are reasonably priced

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nothing alternative - there are 2 main hotspots for clubs and bars - both often heavily policed and not a great atmosphere if you don't like RnB

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Lot of sports and social clubs

    5/5
