The Role
It took around 6 months for me to feel comfortable in my job role - however once I had a better grasp on the whole thing it was a much better experience
Everyone at IBM has been really supportive, I work in a team of 2 people however the wider community have shown me great support and friendliness.
My manager is there to support and assist me however you are expected to go and find answers yourself - it can be hard at first as you don't know who/where to go to...and IBM is a big place...
Most days there is a great balance with the workload but towards quarter and month ends you will see a peak
My task manager was there to support and guide me however I was left to make my own decisions and correct any mistakes
I have been given the opportunity to manage projects, network with people and generally get a feel for what working for an organisation the size of IBM feels like - I really value what I have learnt and I would recommend the scheme to anyone wanting a placement in a corporate environment
The Company
Although everyone is friendly there is always work constraints and often not a lot of flexibility for long lunches etc...the closest social place we could go was a 15 min drive away. People were friendly but understandably busy
Unfortunately my development manager was changed part way through my placement which was quite unsettling
You get out what you put in - nothing is just handed to you but the opportunities are there for you to get. There are lots of online communities to assist with your personal training and development
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Working from home
There are only a limited number of graduate roles and the ones I am interested in are based at a location I would not be happy moving to
The Culture
Some people treated it like they had never left university.
Entry, drinks, food and taxis are reasonably priced
Nothing alternative - there are 2 main hotspots for clubs and bars - both often heavily policed and not a great atmosphere if you don't like RnB
Lot of sports and social clubs
