Overview
I would calculate values of people’s pensions converting between a lump sum and yearly payment. I would take into account many variables: life expectancy, likelihood to have a spouse, age and life expectancy of spouse etc.
Skills
I’ve learnt a lot more about actuarial assumptions and how they are used day to day. Also improved on general excel skills.
Responsibilities
Yes, most of my work was checked and reviewed before being used but the work I was doing was affecting specific schemes and people.
Support & Guidance
Everyone was incredibly helpful and there isn’t a single person you can’t ask a question to.
Culture
Very friendly and everybody was readily available.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed it very much and has solidified my choice to pursue an actuarial career.
Yes
Just to get involved. You may be nervous but everybody is good fun and wants you to enjoy it as well as be productive.
