Overview
Analyzing data, and flagging up things that look like they would have major impacts on the insurer. Participated in many learning sessions run centrally by Aon global and UK. Day-to-day activities will vary a lot depending on project availability
Skills
Learned basics of VBA, along with a heightened proficiency in excel. Learned a lot about the fundamentals of actuarial work, and the regulations surrounding it.
Responsibilities
Yes, I was responsible for a fair few data manipulation tasks, and for meaningful analysis of data, (adjusting trends etc.) using non-algorithmic judgement
Support & Guidance
Recieved a lot of training early on, but sometimes people would be too busy to help
Culture
Centrally, Aon supports you a lot, and is very understanding of personal circumstances. They care about wellbeing and invest in your personal development. Couldnt ask for much more really. The team I was in is known for having extremely high expectations and a low intern-grad conversion rate. this does cause a lot of stress in the work, and I found myself feeling quite hard on myself for errors. working past hours is expected.
Your Impressions
The work could be straining, but for the most part the people made it enjoyable. As with all jobs, there were busy periods and less busy periods, but overall workload felt about right.
Yes
Make sure to work hard and precise
