Overview
I joined the Design Team in researching trends and building up ideas for AW24 collections. The role involved physically and digitally compiling research and reviewing successes of previous collections. I had a chance to create imagery for potential use in next year's seasonal collections. I also joined in design meetings and buyer reviews along with colour generation for trend packs.
Skills
Extensive research and image generation. Accurately compiling a trend pack and curating imagery for a cohesive approach across homeware department.
Business Insight
I underestimated how many roles were involved in creating and launching good quality collections and it was good to know what processes were involved in ensuring the design teams kept a consistent approach.
Culture
Warm and positive. The team greatly encouraged questions and were happy to give guidance. There were lots of students on other placements so I didn't feel uncomfortable asking or feeling out of place
Your Impressions
I learnt a lot about the job role whilst I was there and understood more about what it entailed compared to my previously limited understanding. It gave me a good deal to think about whether I was ready to join the industry and if I was properly suited for this role.
Yes
Take the chance. The workplace is a great learning environment and is fully designed to help students learn on the go. Even. Short experience opens your eyes to parts of the industry you may not have been aware of.
