The Role
The placement was challenging and as well as performing BAU activities I got the chance to be involved in various projects through out the year.
My team at IBM was a fantastic support during my year and my placement wouldn't have been the same without them. I was never treated like a student but felt like part of the team at all times.
My manager had daily involvement in my work and I was supported consistently throughout. I was given responsibility but never abandoned. If i needed help there was always somebody to ask.
There were peaks and troughs in my workload, however most of the time I had a good balance of work. Some months conflicting deadlines came around which required me to work longer hours.
As I began to show my abilities I was trusted with more responsibility. I took various projects off my managers and was given the opportunity to improve the processes.
My placement year was invaluable at developing my skills and I feel more prepared to return to university and for my future career.
The Company
I was based in a small flexible desk office therefore it was not always busy. Given this nature it could be very quiet at times however there were other placement students around.
My team were very used to having a placement student as they had done so for many years. This meant that I walked into an already defined role but also got the chance to build upon it for my replacement.
The company could have done more in terms of skill development however I went out and sought my own opportunities. I imagine as a graduate they invest more money on training given that you have a more secure future with them
Flexi Time
Financial Bonus
Working from home
I have applied back to the graduate scheme ahead of standard application time therefore as long as I prove my abilities in a second round assessment center at most I could get hired back.
The Culture
Being based in a smaller office meant that we built our own social atmosphere but I am aware in other locations there are many more organised activities for students.
I lived at home so cost was a minimum for me
If you ventured to city centre night life was great but the local area was non existent.
If we organised them ourselves
