Overview
Worked as part of an Agile team on a standalone product collaborating with another intern. Was responsible of the whole development process of the backend in Java (Spring Boot) from communicating with the end user to creating user stories and organising them into sprint to developing and deploying the software solution.
Skills
Improved my Java skills and acquired knowledge of Spring Boot. Got more experience with Git as part of a small Agile team. Learned how to deploy on Open Shift and how to configure it. Used a very diverse set of tools and libraries to complete the solution.
Responsibilities
Was given a lot of responsibility overall. The software solution was an internal tool but it was replacing another system that was getting phased out so the end users were relying on our solution to continue their work efficiently. Was responsible of the whole development process for the product from concept to deployment.
Support & Guidance
Team had a pretty hands off approach not prescribing the tech stack and tools to use helping to decide by myself. The tech anchor for the team was very helpful at deciding the software architecture and assisted through the development process with suggestions and ideas.
Culture
More laid back than I expected for a company of this size. The UK branch is smaller and most of the community has a tech background so the tech team was not a minority as I experienced in other companies. Because there are fewer people on the business side the dress code is pretty relaxed which was a surprise for a company in the banking industry.

Very enjoyable overall experience. Had a lot of flexibility in all the aspects of my internship.
