Overview
IBD role as internship. I was on live deals but I also had marketing work, too. Cross-staffing also possible
Skills
I developed a lot of technical skills. The steep learning curve is definitely true. I built my own models by the end of the internship. I also gained soft skills such as effective communication, mediating multiple work streams
Responsibilities
I was given a lot of responsibility after week 4. I could feel the expectations rising but that also has to do with your deliverables in the first 4 weeks. The general expectation from an intern is to improve; not to be perfect from day 1.
Support & Guidance
I had a buddy, as well as a case study buddy who were supporting me along the journey. My sub-team, especially the analysts, were also always willing to help whenever I had a question.
Culture
JPM has a very supportive and humble culture in general. All feedbacks are directly made in person so no surprises happen at mid-review sessions (at least for my team). It is not about being perfect, it is about being willing to learn and improve.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed it for the most part and way more than I would expect. I learnt so much and my team was the best part of it all.
Yes
Apply early; meet people working at JPM and check other firms as well to see the best fit to your personality. IB is definitely not manageable if you are working with people you dont fit in with. JPM was a great fit for me which is why I had a good experience.
