Overview
Working within a technology team to deliver technology to support the operations of Citi. Following scrum software development principles to work as a team, with daily scrum calls.
Skills
New skills: Tablaeu, Apache spark, Cloud computing, Job automation and scheduling, Environment testing, Unit testing, Jira, Confluence Developed skills: Presentation, Java, Python, Pandas, Scrum, Agile
Responsibilities
I was given a fair amount of responsibility based on my competence to complete tasks within the team. I was not overwhelmed with work, however I was given opportunities to take responsibility for tasks that fit with my skill set. I felt supported when completing work and could ask for help if I needed it.
Support & Guidance
I was given a good amount of support. Citi have a buddy scheme for new starts so I was taken under the wings of a graduate analyst within the team, and this was a good way for me to learn and develop by shadowing the graduate. In terms of guidance, sometimes my work was quite self-directed and I had to take the initiative to create opportunities for myself
Culture
Culture good in terms of development. Citi has a Voice of Employee network with some socials organized etc. I would say the general atmosphere in the day to day is less friendly/quieter than I had expected, potentially due to hybrid working models. I found that often I was one of the only people on my team who would come into the office
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my time at Citi. I learnt a lot in the 10 weeks, developing my professional skills to a greater extent than I had at University. I would recommend this internship to anyone who is interested in a career within Finance or Technology as it has given me a good perspective in terms of future opportunities I would like to seek out.
