Overview
Completing tasks set by members of the planning team to help them with their projects. Office-based, primarily involves researching planning applications and documents and sending professional emails.
Skills
I have picked up a lot of practical-on-the job planning experience that I wasn't taught about at University. I've learned how to find sources of information, formal written skills, and have gained a good understanding about how the planning system operates.
Responsibilities
Yes - given the responsibility to email external clients, and the work I've completed has been used directly by the planning team for their projects.
Support & Guidance
I received a line manager / mentor who got me set up and looked after me over the course of the four weeks. Any other employees who set me tasks gave me clear guidance on how to do them and were always happy to guide me further if I needed it.
Culture
Very friendly - everyone was very welcoming and always happy to offer guidance and support. There was a busy atmosphere, but no one seemed overly stressed.
Your Impressions
Enjoyed it immensely - everyone went out of their way to make me feel comfortable and get the most out of my internship. I always had enough work to be getting on with, and the work ranged in difficulty with some of it being a good challenge.
Yes
Make sure to research the company as much as possible and know what projects the team you want to join are working on.
