Overview
Interns are split into groups of 6-8. There is a training camp, in which we work in pairs on a series of small projects which typically take about a day to complete. Then we begin work on a larger project for the rest of the internship. The project is split into many smaller tasks, so on a day-to-day basis this involves working on a task (ie, coding), reviewing other people's code, and testing 'completed' code on the project. We have also done some demos/presentations relating to our project.
Skills
I have learnt a lot about coding as I went into this internship with almost no prior knowledge/experience. The languages I used in this internship were TypeScript, html and css. I feel I have also improved my organisation, collaboration, communication and presentation skills through working on a group project and presenting/explaining aspects of it to others.
Responsibilities
Yes - although the project is planned out for us we are free to work on whatever aspect of the project we want. Guidance is always given if we want it and if we want advice/direction for what to work on, but if anyone wants to work on something specific we are free to do so.
Support & Guidance
Lots and lots - there are loads of people to go to for help and guidance, whether that relates to the project, general questions about working as a software developer or welfare support. They are really good at knowing when to teach and when to let you learn yourself, and you are never made to feel bad about asking for help.
Culture
Really friendly and fun - there are loads of social/morale events to get involved in no matter what you are interested in
Your Impressions
I enjoyed it so much! I had the best time, met amazing people and learnt so much. Would highly recommend :)
Yes
Be yourself in the interviews, and don't stress too much about prior experience - they are much more interested in potential and how you think than how many coding languages you already know (if any!)
