The Role
This year I have enjoyed my placement. Of course there are good points and bad points, as I'm sure there is with every job, but I think that the good outweighed the bad.
Most of the people I worked with were based at various locations around Europe, even though I only met a very small number of them I was always treated as a member of the team rather than a student.
Even though my manager was based in Germany we spoke on the phone almost every day, the guidance I received in not only my day to day work but also my future career will benefit me in the future.
Work fluctuated in intensity with the stage in the quarter, however there were very few times that I had nothing to do.
I was the sole coordinator for 2 Business Partner Investment Programs with a very large yearly revenue, the level responsibility I was trusted with was very high.
The role which I was part of was quite specialised, so I do not think that some of the skills I have learned are transferable. However there are many which are such as excel and people skills, I also believe that my work ethic has improved which will benefit me in my final year at university.
The Company
There were around 40 students in my office, so there were always people to socialise with in the office, and outside the office.
Very good, IBM has a department in charge of students and graduates called 'Foundation' the transition into the role was seamless.
In IBM there is a portal available to take various online learning classes for free, some of these can be quite beneficial to you.

I will be applying back to IBM, I hope to secure a graduate sales position.
The Culture
IBM employs over 250 placement students across the country, the atmosphere was always good with all the students.
I lived in west London, so the prices were higher than what I was used to at university, but the London allowance helps to cover the increased costs associated with London.
There were plenty of places to go out around where I was living: Kingston, Richmond, Clapham Junction, Twickenham or if I was feeling adventurous Central London was only 45 minutes away.
IBM Giveback is a scheme giving all employees the opportunity to help out at various events outside of work.
