The Role
I really enjoyed my placement and will defiitely be applying to the IBM graduate scheme.
My experience of IBM employees is that the majority are very friendly and down-t-earth. They have a very goo network which means you can easily speak to people in other departments that you oherwise wouldn't speak to in your day-to-day job
I was given a Professional Dvelopment Managr (PDM) who wasextemely helpful. We had regular meetings to discuss my progress and he gave me lots of contacts for shdowing opportunities for my future career.
I was very busy and my workload was particularly challenging at month end but I wouln't say it was too much.
I was given a lot of responsibility and was soleley responsible for a number of important tasks. This was quite daunting at first but ultimately this has been a good experience.
I have been able to relate the theories learned at university to everyday business processes which has ben very interesting.
The Company
Office was very small and quiet
I had a thorogh induction and handover which allowed me to perform my role effectively
I was able to use free online courses but often could not attend events due to not being allowed travel approval (most of the opportunities were down south)
Working from home
I am hoping that my performance in my placment will 'fast track' me through part of the recruitment process fo graduate jobs, of which there are plenty ofvacancies
The Culture
We often went out for meals/nights out
About average - not a wide range to choose from though
Sale, Manchester does not have any nightlife. We had to go to Manchester City Centre
I got involed in lots of veback opportunities such as university events, mock interviews with school leavers and women in techology events
