The Role
The job has maybe not been as exciting as I had wished but as a whole the work has been challenging and offered me some good experience in thinking on my feet and organising myself.
I did feel valued by my colleagues and was regularly given plenty of tasks to do by them. My 'team' was very disjointed as such, and therefore I was not as integrated as much as I'd hoped. With my role there was very much an emphasis on solo working. This can work for some people, however I'd like to be more integrated into a team.
When I have spoken to my managers, they have been very helpful both in face to face meetings and on the phone. If I had any problems they would be patient and help me work it through. However, getting in contact with them has at times proven difficult to say the least. I put this down more to the fact that my managers have very busy and stressful jobs rather than them being absent minded. But as said earlier, when I have seen them, my managers have been excellent.
The job very much had it's peaks and troughs. At times I would be incredibly busy with work coming in from every angle, and at other times the work has slowed significantly. I made this work for me, others may not have liked the inconsistency but I enjoyed it.
At times I had a lot of responsibility, doing many tasks, the results of which would be shown over the whole of Europe. Other times I have simply been working on spreadsheets. I'm not complaining about that fact, because I know that the boring work simply has to be done. A little extra responsibility would have been great.
My skills in time management and a focus on work have improved to a large extent over the year. To some extent my presentation skills have been improved by the numerous training days that IBM offers.
The Company
In the office there were about 8 placement students, all doing marketing that sat together. This was a great opportunity to network, share knowledge and have fun while you work. Enjoyed being in the office a lot. Made some great friends there.
Very much a seamless process. IBM knew what they were doing and very rarely, if ever, did I experience a bureaucratic hiccup.
The opportunity was there for me, for sure. Many online lessons and tutorials. Very impressive how much IBM dedicate to improving the skill set of their workforce.
Flexi Time

Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Working from home
Healthcare from home
If, unlike me, you would like to do sales, consultancy or a technical role at IBM, then you are well catered for. I, unfortunately, don't wish to do any of those, so will not be applying back as a graduate. This will not deter me from applying back in the future however.
The Culture
Really good social side. Always something going on. Very impressive.
London is very expensive. I paid £435 p/m in a house with 5 others. Food, drink, travel, pretty much everything in London is over-priced. (I once paid £30 for 3 bottles of beer in a bar near the Bank of England)
In the area we worked, our local club, if you could call it that was a dive. Not recommended. Go to Bournemouth/Portsmouth. Those were our best nights out in the yea.
Yes there was always opportunities to do something different.
