Overview
I worked as a software engineer. This involves daily scrum meetings, coding, fixing bugs, planning for sprints, and providing feedback on other team members' code. As interns, we get assigned a summer project as well, which is actually implemented in the application that we work on. I also have regular meetings with my manager and team to track my progress, and I receive a lot of support.
Skills
I have definitely learnt a wide variety of skills, both soft and technical. On the technical side, I have learnt how to use the Angular framework, the TypeScript language and unit testing in Jasmine. In terms of soft skills, I have become a lot more organized with the way I go about writing code and communicating with other people. I have also gained a good understanding of how to develop with the Agile methodology.
Responsibilities
Yes, the project that I was assigned was important to the application I was working on, and the changes I made were part of the release. I felt like I was able to provide value to the company, and was able to take an active role within the team.
Support & Guidance
I was given a lot of support throughout the internship, everyone was open to have conversations with me and provide me with knowledge about a wide variety of topics. I received support for both my project and the development of my professional career.
Culture
The company culture is very positive - "people culture" isn't just another buzz word here. Everyone is very supportive and accessible, and want us to develop our skills. I l could go to anyone's desk and have a conversation with me, it really shaped a positive experience for me.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship. I learnt a lot, made many valuable connections and was able to provide value to the company as well. I will definitely be returning to the company.
Yes
Be yourself and be willing to learn, the company really appreciates that.
