Overview
Over the course of a 12-month period, I rotated to several teams in Finance. In the role, you are expected to shadow colleagues to develop an understanding of the work they carry out, as well as take on various tasks related to the team I you are in. Alongside this, I would have a background task with deadlines to be met, set by your manager.
Skills
Skills developed: confident communication skills with colleagues either in the office or at home online on Teams, time-management skills to meet deadlines and prioritise, adaptability skills as a result of being rotated several times in a short period, and finally commercial awareness in terms of what Sage do and how they make profitable returns.
Responsibilities
In some roles more than other, I had much more responsibility and thus got more out of the time I spent there. That being said, majority of teams I rotated into provided me with a breadth of learning opportunity by getting hands on with tasks and engaging in brilliant conversations with colleagues.
Support & Guidance
I had brilliant line managers that would make sure I have enough on my plate every week. We always had half hour catch ups at the end of the week, to reflect and look forward to activities and events on the following week. Also lots of brilliant support regarding well-being, which gets reiterated frequently so every colleague is aware of the support available.
Culture
Fantastic culture! A culture that I felt confident to trust myself and speak up during meetings. Inviting culture for placement students to ask questions and set up meets with individuals if you had any queries. Friendly, human and all around positive.
Your Impressions
Fantastic learning experience for me and can see a huge change in personal development from the first day I began the placement. The company is truly built on the foundations of its people and that’s what makes it a great place to work.
Yes
To have endless curiosity to understand how the company operates and embed their values. Be open to meet people in the wider company and get involved with as many foundation days/social events as you possibly can!
