Overview
- Attending meetings both in person and online with other colleagues and clients. - Completing work for assigned projects.
Skills
I have been able to develop my existing skills by applying learnt knowledge into a real world setting. This has been valuable in setting me up well for graduate jobs.
Responsibilities
I was given some responsibility during my placement in the sense that I was in charge of some reports or sections of reports. The responsibility being completion of good work before the deadline.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of guidance from my line manager and my assigned 'buddy' who were always around to help me if I was stuck. Plus there are team meetings every week to assess your workload and stress levels so if you were ever overwhelmed they'd balance your work.
Culture
The company culture is lovely everyone always has lunch together so its very easy to meet new people. On a Thursday in my department they normally go to the local pub for a pint after work which is nice. And at the end of every month there is a 'celebration fridge' where the company supplies food and drinks around different themes. This makes the office feel a lot less intimidating.
Your Impressions
I've thoroughly enjoyed my placement my colleagues have been so welcoming and friendly. The company has a lot of extra curricular activities such as yoga and climbing. There are various incentives and the work in general is very flexible which worked around my dissertation well. My only criticism was that sometimes I was left waiting for new projects to be assigned to and during this time I found it quite boring. Otherwise it was very enjoyable.
Yes
Make the most out of extracurricular activities and get involved in the office where you can as there's normally quite a few placement students and graduates you can get to know. A job after the placement isn't guaranteed so don't be dependent on it and apply to other graduate jobs while on your placement.
