Overview
Checking in with my team and seeing if there was with available. The tasks I did were quite wide-ranging, from web design to data management, BIM modelling checks, drafting security strategy and so on.
Skills
I learnt familiarity with html and css as well as how to use SharePoint for website design. I got an idea of how reports are written in the professional world as well as the document naming and review system.
Responsibilities
Some work did carry a larger amount of responsibility as it led to establishing company-wide changes (within the country). Of course, my work was reviewed by superiors to ensure it was right. I was given less responsibility in that often there was little work available for me and I had dead time between projects.
Support & Guidance
I received helpful guidance and support during my placement - I had always had people to direct my questions to (even if responses could take a few hours), with some going above and beyond to help me understand an area I was previously unfamiliar with.
Culture
Quite relaxed and friendly. One issue was that so many people mostly worked from home so I only met them a couple times in person or even at all and most of my work was done online.
Your Impressions
It did give me a good understanding of a variety of areas within the sector. Good experience. However, I felt I could have been pushed more, work being more regular would have been nice and given me more motivation within the job, too often I felt I had nothing to do.
Yes
The interview process was the hardest part. During the placement, listen to everything people on your team have to say, and ask as many questions as you can to make the best use of the placement.
