    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Supporting and maintaining the control, electrical and instrumentation systems used for engine, driveline and chemical testing. This included planned installation work, maintenance to ensure a test can continue running and prototyping project work

  • Electrical Installation standards Control panel wiring and design Understanding of complex control systems Instrumentation regimes and error considerstions Working across a large workforce in numerous departments, communicating with a variety of people.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, from day 1 I was working on real projects/installations which tests relies on. This was accompanied by the appropriate level of support but it was very much me doing the work.

  • Everyone I worked with was only too happy to show/demonstrate what and how they do their job. People would regularly drop some of their own work to assist with mine or answer any questions I had

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Extremely friendly, always happy to chat or help. Generally quite relaxed work, with very few hard deadlines (as per an R&D setting). When mistakes happened the emphasis was on preventing them in the future and not about blame etc, regardless of who made the mistake

  • I massively enjoyed my placement and couldn't reccomend it enough. I enjoyed the work, the people, and the environment and had an excellent year

  • Spend time researching the culture, safety attitude and industry. Specifically for this placement, a knowledge of control panels and/or electrical theory would be helpful
