Overview
I am reviewing the current outage procedures and collaborating with experts to build a scope for an optimised strategy. This entails looking at how we go about completing the works during an outage on the interconnectors and developing a more efficient way to get the works done. An outage is when the interconnectors are not in operation and maintenance repairs are carried out.
Skills
This internship has been a crucible for sharpening my critical thinking, refining my articulate communication, and strategically selecting pertinent resources out of the lot. Having had the opportunity to engage with different colleagues, my people skills have improved significantly.
Responsibilities
I have been allowed to take initiative for my own development. We had a week training where we discussed objective setting and defining what we wanted to get out of the placement. With my role and what is expected of me, I am responsible for building that optimised strategy for the outages howbeit, liasing with experts on what good should look like.
Support & Guidance
My manager has been wonderfully supportive. Together, we developed a project timeline, identifying major milestone and risks assoociated with it. Everyone at the organisation has been super welcoming and always ready to provide a hand.
Culture
As an intern, you'd think you will feel secluded however that was not the case. Everyone is welcoming. You feel a part of the organisation from the start and your inputs are well recognised. The values on doing the right thing are not only preached but well lived throughout the organisation.
Your Impressions
I have really enjoyed this placement especially with the site visits. It is ecouraging to get that practical appreciation for your work and what it helps towards.
Yes
Before application, take some time to learn about the company, what they do, upcoming projects and their values. It is imperative you avoid going through the motion when making an application because Nationalgrid has the established resources to help with your development.
