Overview
My role was defined by the type of projects ongoing within the team at the time I was working there. Basically helping with anything I was asked to. This included desk studies, calculations, CAD work etc
Skills
I developed relevant engineering skills suck as design work, engineering drawing, site research (desk studies) etc. I was able to apply the theory and knowledge learnt at university to real life scenarios as well as learning from the experience of my colleagues
Responsibilities
Yes. Compared with previous placements with the company, this team offered me the chance to do real engineering work. In other placements I have always been assigned bit-part jobs, often things which permanent staff can’t be bothered to do themselves.
Support & Guidance
I received great support from all team members of varying experiences and ages. Everyone really wanted to help me and make sure I felt involved and part of the team
Culture
They hold high standards which I love but they also provide the support needed to meet those standards. It’s a healthy work environment with a good balance of fun and hard work
Your Impressions
I very much enjoyed this placement and look forward to returning
Yes
Be really keen to help out and just get stuck in with any tasks you get given. But also don’t let them take advantage of you. In previous placements I was used as an ecologist doing late night and early morning bat surveys. I ended up telling them that it wasn’t engineering and that they had to change it, which they did eventually
