    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role was to conduct analysis on third party data using python and leveraging business visualization tools to create dashboards that would be intuitive and display results for stakeholders. On a day to day basis I usually had a morning huddles with fellow interns as well as team meetings to update on project progress. I also had networking/shadowing sessions which I had organized within and outside of the data department.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have developed my python and data analysis skills as well as my visualization skills curating stakeholder friendly dashboards. I also learnt more about the fixed income market as well as the different types of securities offered within such as structured notes.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility since the findings/analysis from my project was to be used as part of the decision making progress for a business contract. My entire team as well as my manager's manager was interested in the project so it felt really rewarding that I was given such as big responsibility.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received a lot of support and guidance from everyone I met throughout the internship. From my team specifically as well as those outside of my team that were also interested in me succeeding in the internship and project. There were plenty of opportunities to shadow and network individuals within my department but also outside. There were formal sessions hosted walking us through terminal functionality as well as proprietary technology and software.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The culture was fantastic in that every single individual that I met was extremely friendly and respectful, they always had the time to answer my questions and teach me new things. They were always willing to have a coffee chat to talk further and at times even scheduled chats themselves. There is a big emphasis on collaboration and philanthropy which are core values of Bloomberg and you notice this from day one.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my internship at Bloomberg, I was able to work on a meaningful project and deliver value and impact to my team and the wider business. I was able to collaborate with others and network with full time employees and meet wonderful fellow interns whom I will go on to continue being friends with after the internship. All around I was able to learn more about the finance industry grow my network.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Bloomberg
  • My biggest advice is to know what you really want to do and why. It can be difficult as someone with not much experience but, have some sort of an idea and understand the bigger trends within the industry and how it would impact Bloomberg. In terms of the interview absolutely nothing to worry about, try to demonstrate your passion and skills and why you really want to work for Bloomberg.
