    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • In the analytics and sales internship, you rotate between analytics, where you get training on financial concepts and the terminal, and sales, where you interact with clients firsthand through calling campaigns and client meetings. Furthermore, you have key projects that you work on as a team throughout the 10 weeks of the internship and present at the end.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Although I have a background in economics, the internship provides training sessions on financial concepts that help to bridge the gap between interns with and without a finance background. We were also able to develop our terminal skills significantly throughout the internship as we needed to be at the level at which we could teach clients how to use it.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes - we started engaging in crucial, client-facing tasks very early on in the internship. Although we had support from our mentors, we were encouraged to book our own meetings and lead them ourselves, taking responsibility over the process from beginning to end.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • There was a lot of support provided - between our sales line manager, sales mentor, analytics mentor, analytics team leader, analytics manager, and connector, there was no shortage of people to turn to when I needed help or advice. They checked in with me regularly to ensure that I was always keeping up and making the most of the experience.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • While many companies claim to be inclusive and collaborative, Bloomberg really lives up to what they claim. Due to the flat hierarchy of the company, you are able to connect with anybody in the company and learn from them. Everybody is always open to helping everybody and the pantry is always buzzing with this energy.
