Skills
I have developed my research and evaluation skills. I have also improved my networking skills, learned a lot more about how to use the Bloomberg Terminal, functions, and find info fast. Another thing is that I have learned about how the different areas/departments of Bloomberg work together.
Responsibilities
I was given a fair bit of responsibility for how I managed my project work (for which I had a good bit of autonomy for), and organised my time around this project work and my other timetabled sessions. I was also given responsibilities for organising time off (we were given 5 days paid holiday) and organising some team meetings/catch-ups and EVALs.
Support & Guidance
I was given a lot of support and guidance, alongside a wealth of resources.
Culture
Bloomberg is a fantastic company with a great culture. The atmosphere is great. People care about other people. People will make time to engage with other people, have catch-ups, and work across teams across departments. It was also great to see some of the philanthropy and charity work, to get involved during the intern day of service - we went to Bikeworks at the Velodrome and built some bicycles.
Your Impressions
It was a fantastic internship. I have no regrets and would do it all again.
Yes
Keep an open mind, research the company and the department you want to work for in advance, and don't worry if you don't have a background in finance - they care more about your willingness to show up and learn, ask questions, be curious, grow collaborate, stretch and challenge yourself. The interview is a conversation, not an interrogation. Ask the interviewers some questions as well. Believe in yourself, and keep going.
