Overview
Software engineer, picked stories from the Jira backlog, implemented features. Additionally, attend daily meetings. Hybrid 3 days minimum a week in the office.
Skills
Learnt TypeScript, Redux, Spring Boot, Cassandra, Kubernetes, Maven, Gradle, Jira, Cucumber, JUnit, Mockito. Developed skills in React, Java, JavaScript. Developed networking and presenting skills.
Responsibilities
In terms of work, was given as much responsibility as a regular employee, although colleagues know you are an intern and so are more patient, and more likely to pick up less critical tasks.
Support & Guidance
Worked closely with an associate (occasionally pair programmed). Other teammates were very kind and helpful when they had the time. They of course were very busy, so could not always help.
Culture
A very corporate and bureaucratic environment, but it was still very friendly and relaxed.
Your Impressions
Enjoyed the placement, learned lots, worked on applications with real-world consequences, attended various social events.
Yes
Surprisingly more technical than I would have thought, but it is still a bank. Be mindful of finance and not just tech.
