Overview
My role as an intern involved producing morning notes, joining team meetings and shadowing other traders. The main objective initially was to develop my understanding of what the desk does. I then began a project analysing a specific platform used by my desk, in order to advise the desk on how they could use it better. I then had a presentation regarding this project at the end of the internship.
Skills
Gained a better understanding of what each team on the desk does, simulated some of the activities they do. Developed excel skills. Also developed programming skills to a lesser degree.
Responsibilities
I was given some responsibility such as making morning notes. I was also responsible for organising meetings with individuals from other companies to help improve our relations with them.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of support and guidance, I felt like I was able to go to anyone I needed for assistance.
Culture
Very inclusive, made me feel quite welcome, though some aspects of the culture did feel quite intense.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed it quite a lot, I feel like my team played a big part in it as well as the other interns. I understand that some interns on other teams may not have enjoyed it as much due to the team they were with for example.
Yes
Look into what teams you want and also take into account whether you will get along well with the people within the team and not just the product/asset class the team deals with.
