Overview
During my internship, I had one project that I was tasked to complete so the majority of my day was dedicated to that. However, there would also be meetings I could join to learn about the different desks/ wider company.
Skills
Yes, my project was very focused in coding specifically in MATLAB and Python so there were a lot of new features that I had to learn to use for example Graphical User Interfaces. We also needed to give a presentation to the executive committee at the end of the internship, so my communication and presentation skills were also enhanced.
Responsibilities
My internship was entirely project based, but it is up to your to take responsibility for how to manage your time, any additional features you would like to add to the project and ensuring you reach out to the end-users of your product to understand how they will be using it.
Support & Guidance
Everyone on my desk was very available to help if I asked for example if I was stuck on a specific part of the project or to explain some of the concepts in meetings I didn't have the best grasp on.
Culture
The company was very welcoming and I felt like I was part of the team. It was also great to be able to work in the office each day to truly understand how a trading floor operates.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my placement, and I feel like I have finished the project having added value to the company as well as grown personally.
Yes
During the interview process, it is very important to understand the current world affairs and how they are effecting the markets. I would also say problem solving is a very important skill to have.
