Overview
Depending on Project my activities as a business consultant would vary from running daily standups as a scrum master to deep market research for client offerings Generally (on project) you can have a day full of meetings or have very few, depending on the stage the project is in (e.g. discovery of delivery)
Skills
It would be hard to quantify all the skills I have learnt as being in the thick of things you learn a lot on the job. In terms of actual training I have received: Scrum master training, AI Ethics training, Agile training, Garage Training, Design enterprise thinking training, presentation training, UX/UI training, Market research training, User testing training, and a variety of shadowing to name a few
Responsibilities
I was trusted (once I proved myself) with client workshops, client interactions and engagements. I am fairly outgoing and my role has been client facing and external so I have been lucky to experience these scenarios. I had a lot of responsibility as a representative of the company.
Support & Guidance
I had constant training and advice from managers and colleagues and always had someone to go to when I needed help or advice, community is one of the biggest aspects of IBM and I could go to anyone for support or guidance
Culture
The culture and general atmosphere were phenomenal. Whether on project or not I consistently had a circle or colleagues, many whom I would now call friends and meet with outside of work who I could rely on for anything. It would be hard for another company to live up the great environment at IBM.
Your Impressions
I don't say this lightly but I will greatly miss the placement year. It has been one of the best years of my life and I have felt right at home. You don't feel like an intern, you feel like you truly belong which is why I will recommend a placement year here to anyone.
Yes
Be your true authentic self and be a good listener. Show a true, genuine interest to the area or role you are applying to so it won't feel like work. Ask anyone anything, most people are more than happy to help.
