Overview
The 8-week internship begins with 1 week of training, aiming to introduce you to the firm and type of work done, as well as help you develop the key skills required to have a successful internship. In the first week you are assigned to a consulting project, which you work on for the next 7 weeks. Alongside this, the day-to-day involves a lot of networking and also opportunities to help on additional projects.
Skills
The internship is very flexible in that you can customise how you spend your time to develop the skills you most want to improve, through the additional projects and training courses you take on. Networking is a very large part of the culture and day-to-day work, therefore communication is definitely a core skill developed through the internship and the same is true for team-working and collaboration skills, since all project work is team-based.
Responsibilities
The main Business Transformation internship project is completed in a group with some of the other Business Transformation interns, therefore we had significant responsibility in ensuring the end-to-end delivery of this project, including managing the client relationship, conducting all primary and secondary research and preparing an extensive report and presentation to deliver our findings in the final week, to the client and senior (up to c-suite level) members of the firm.
Support & Guidance
A high level of support from the rest of the team, meant that whilst being able to learn independently and gain self-confidence through significant responsibility, I was also always able to seek out help and support, when I was in need of further guidance. Every intern is assigned a buddy and line manger, which are an invaluable source of support. The HR and project work teams are also excellent additional forms of support and guidance.
Culture
The culture at PA is very friendly, open and collaborative. The office is open plan and every employee is free to book any desk in the office, regardless of their rank. The flat hierarchical structure makes it very easy to speak with people of all grades (up to partner and c-suite level) even as an intern, making the environment very inclusive and optimal for learning and networking.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the entirety of the internship. The culture is really nice and everyone is very friendly. This made going to work everyday a pleasure and the ability to help out on projects beyond what was assigned made the experience more personal and engaging, as well as more rewarding, since I was able to develop my skills in a more targeted way.
Yes
I would advise to make a personal impression in the interviews. The culture is very much focussed on each person being able to bring their own unique strengths, experiences and perspectives to the firm. If you are able to connect your individual experiences (personal or professional) to the skills needed for the role, I think this is the best approach for the interview/AC.
