Overview
During my placement on the first few weeks there was a lot of training to be completed, this was mostly independent work where reading and quizzes were involved, deadlines for these training modules where fairly spaced, which would enable for new projects to be started. After the first week, projects were assigned where you would have different tasks to do and sometimes deadlines were assigned. There were also meeting with the entire team, which were an opportunity to learn what other people were working on. Work could be done remotely or at the office, your work schedule was flexible as you could start an hour early and finish an hour early, as long as you have worked the amount of hours you were required to. Going into the office, was a good experience to see how the workplace suited you, it was also great to socialise with other employees from different sectors.
Skills
I have learned to use new software packages such as AutoCAD and Lusas, both good to be trained for the rail industry. My use of Excel has also greatly improved, learned many new tools that the app has.
Responsibilities
Depending on the type of project I was involved in, I would say it was a standard level of responsibly as my colleagues would always be available to answer any questions I had, with no hesitation to help
Support & Guidance
The best part of my experience was how open and available my colleagues were. I felt as if it was easy to ask questions as they were so kind and helpful making sure that the resources they found were accessible for me
Culture
The company was great, I had a good number of days I could use for my annual leave, this shows that even though this was an opportunity for me to work everyday, the company ensured to let me know that I could take time for myself. The people were also great, I was lucky to get a wonderful Technical director who ensured that every team meeting was fun and open for learning opportunities.
Your Impressions
Overall, I enjoyed my internship, I got to meet great people, learned new skills and learned more about Arcadis. At the start I was doing a mock project, as there weren't new projects but later on another new exciting project was assigned to us which improved my experience.
