Overview
- Communicate with co-workers to maintain the company Intranet and ensure it is kept up to date. - Create and publish articles on The Current (TD SYNNEX's internal communications platform), to keep co-workers up to date with the latest news and stories they need to know. - Track co-worker engagement across internal communications channels. - Create and publish digital signage across UK sites. - Communicate with senior leaders to create and record monthly business update videos, including Let’s Celebrate, which celebrates co-workers achievements and good news stories within the business. - Schedule weekly occurrences within the UK&I region.
Skills
- Time management: Working in a fast-paced environment, my role hugely depended on me creating articles and other pieces of work in a timely manner, as well as receiving feedback from co-workers and amending my work, in order to ensure co-workers receive information promptly. - Organisation: This is a core skill that my placement at TD SYNNEX has allowed me to build and develop constantly over the past year with everything I've done. - Communication: During my placement I had many opportunities to develop this skill, both written and oral, in different ways with many different co-workers which has been hugely advantageous - I'd say this is the skill I've improved the most at.
Responsibilities
I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement from the beginning, which I think has prepared me greatly for my future career. As there was only myself and the Internal Communications Manager in the UK&I Internal Communications department, I was given many opportunities to shine, including working with one of the Business Resource Groups to create and execute the communications plan for the Pride 2023 activities. I also had the responsibility to train a co-worker to continue my role after I completed my placement.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of support from the UK&I Internal Communications Manager over the course of my placement. They were always happy to support me if I was struggling or had a query and helped and encouraged me to find solutions myself. Even when my manager had time off work, I always knew who I could ask if I had a question, and co-workers always let me know I could turn to them if I had a problem/question, so I never felt alone!
Culture
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement at TD SYNNEX and was generally surprised (my placement being my first 'real' job at a big company) that the general atmosphere was so positive and welcoming. I enjoyed coming into the office and seeing my co-workers, and I appreciated the hybrid-working policy allowing me to work from home too. Although I felt it was sometimes difficult and a little frustrating to work efficiently alongside some co-workers (due to tight deadlines, conflicting opinions, lack of communication etc), I was generally very happy to work alongside such friendly co-workers and was always happy to help anyone whenever I could.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement and am lucky l that I had such a great placement year working for a great company. I am grateful for all the support from my manager as well as from my other co-workers that I talked to and worked with regularly. The work was always interesting and there were many points during the year that I felt proud of what I had achieved. It was a busy year - but I achieved so much and have so many fond memories.
Yes
Have an open mind and prepare to learn a lot! Do some research on what to expect for the assessment centre and don't be afraid to make your voice heard. Read about the company and familarise yourself with TD SYNNEX's values - I'd say aligning with these values is very important when working at TD SYNNEX. Even if you don't think you have the right qualifications/experience for the role you want to apply for - apply anyway, because you can learn! Working at TD SYNNEX is a great environment to learn - you are surrounded by the best people to support you.
