Overview
My role consisted of a range of office and out of office work. Inside the office involved mainly a range of different report writing and planning. Site visits often consisted of myself paired with a senior surveyor visiting a range of different sites ranging from small domestic dwellings, to large churches. We performed a variety of surveys including RCA's quinquennial, condition and EPC surveys.
Skills
I really developed my surveying skills, knowledge surrounding properties and attention to detail. When surveying properties being paired with some very skilled surveyors allowed me to get a full insight on specific details to look for and how they survey properties.
Responsibilities
After the first couple of months of training I was given a lot more responsibility within my placement. I started going out on my own and conducting surveys by myself and writing the following reports up after. I was also often tasked with planning days where we had multiple surveyors tackling a multitude of properties during a day.
Support & Guidance
I was given a lot of support within my placement. If I ever had any queries or problems there were multiple people within the team to help me solve them. Particularly at the beginning of my placement we went through a lot reports that I had written, and I got feedback on my writing technique and report writing.
Culture
I was situated in a great office with great culture and friendly people. There were regular social events which included everyone.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my placement I was placed in a great team and office, with people I got on really well with and learnt a lot from. I really developed my skills and interest within the industry which I will carry over to my final year at University.
Yes
Coming in a big company can seem daunting, but everyone is really friendly and open to any questions you may have.
