Overview
My tasks included supporting in creating reports of pipeline, revenue results, creating communications, running knowledge sharing sessions, and doing research and creation of slides. At times I worked on client project teams and did other ad-hoc work. Due to the nature of my role, nearly all interactions were internal.
Skills
Through the learning platform I have developed some of my skills, and there is a huge range of courses available. IBM mandates at least 40 hours per year of learning, so there is ample opportunity, and many interns complete more.
Responsibilities
Not very much. I obviously was given tasks to complete, and had to an extent prioritize these and keep up to date on them, but there was not much responsibility. I never had to lead a team etc, and most of the tasks I had would not have had a business impact if they were late or incomplete.
Support & Guidance
Great support and guidance from both a task manager and foundation manager - the task manager is who you report to day-to-day, and we would have catch-ups at least 2x a week even when we weren't working together directly. The foundation manager held group meetings every 2 weeks, and was always available for hr type questions. There's also great resources on the internet to answer basically any question.
Culture
Very big-company (as expected), so lots of stuff had some convoluted process or took a long time, but also has all the benefits of size and scope that big companies have. A bit more work-from-home than I'd like, as the office is quite empty any day except thursday, however depends on your service line or account, as many were in office a lot. Good socials in early professionals and other areas.
Your Impressions
Overall was enjoyable, with some points that were a bit boring or slow. I would definitely recommend to someone without much work experience or who does not know what consulting or being in a big company is like.
Yes
Make sure you reach out as much as you can beyond your immediate service line/area as there's loads of opportunities you won't get otherwise
