Overview
The programme covered what Teach First as a charity does, why they exist and what their mission is. There were a series of talks about what the graduate scheme involves, their work in improving the education system and advice for applying to their grad scheme. There were lots of little group activities and reflections with other participants. The programme built up to a teaching episode task where you used everything you learned to teach a six-minute lesson, and then recieved feedback from a faciliator and your peers.
Skills
Developed my motivation and understanding for teaching and improving the education system. Learned specific teaching techniques which were useful for the teaching episode and will be very useful for the assessment centre when I apply to the grad scheme. Developed my understanding of leadership skills.
Business Insight
It was really interesting. I think they offered a unique experience to show you what teaching actually looks like and highlight both the positives and negatives before you commit to a programme. They also showed lots of alternative options that ambassadors of the programme have taken, outside of the programme, and are very encouraging of using Teach First as a step in your career.
Culture
Very friendly and welcoming. They were clearly experts in their field.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the insight. It answered a lot of questions I had about Teach First and teaching generally and it was great to be able to see a wide variety of future options for myself. I would recommend to anyone who is even slightly considering teaching as a profession.
