Overview
3 days that consisted of 2 being virtual and one being on-site. We had the opportunity to learn lots about KPMG, stemming from their values to their societies and departments. We got to meet other students on the on-site day and meet current employees to network. We also had the opportunity to interview for apprenticeships/graduate programmes which was different to other insight days. So to summarise, this was an insight programme where we learnt about KPMG but was also part of the application process for graduate/apprenticeship programmes.
Skills
I learnt about the importance of ESG and how sustainability should be implemented into everyone’s work. I also developed my teamwork during the assessment centre as we had to create and idea and present it, which also developed presentation skills.
Business Insight
It was valuable as most of the employees told anecdotes which made it much more memorable than if they just explained their roles in a boring manner. They were all very open to questions even after they were off the stage which was beneficial for students who are more shy.
Culture
Everyone said that the people are what make KPMG great. Most companies say that but for KPMG it was very evident. Throughout the programme they have provided lots of support to everyone. They also invited us to have a mentor before the programme and invited us to team meetings to further get to know KPMG. They were clearly very supportive.
Your Impressions
To a large extent. When I applied, I thought it was an ordinary insight event, I didn’t realise it was also an opportunity to be given an apprenticeship. I am very grateful, and I especially enjoyed talking to the employees as it confirmed the fact that u want to be a tech consultant.
Yes
Research the company as they may have opportunities such as networking events that anyone can join regardless of if you are an employee or not.
