The Role
I have had a brilliant experience throughout my placement year.
People would come to me for help with problems they had, my opinion was valued.
Every Intern has a a Manager who helps with your own development, as well as a task manager who will help you in your day to day role.
The workload varied, but there is the opportunity to request more work if you require it.
I had certain roles entrusted to me which were very important to the business.
Particular skills such as Microsoft Excel will be very useful in my degree.
The Company
As I was in the Finance building it tended to be very quiet all the time. Although this did help with when you were working, it could be seen as boring.
Very well set up. The company constantly run events throughout the year to get all placement students involved.
The training early on was very professional. Most roles have a 'hand-over' period with the previous intern, I found this extremely useful.
Flexi Time
Working from home
I would like to apply back for a Graduate role in the future. However, there are no roles in Finance which would be my preferred area of business.
The Culture
This is one area where I found the scheme really excelled. As the company employ lots of student interns there is a great social atmosphere. I have met some lovely people and made lots of new friends who I would like to stay in contact with.
I lived in Portsmouth and found the cost of living to be very reasonable.
This accompanied the great social scene in the placement. I found that the year was very similar to University life; going out and having a good laugh with your friends.
IBM constantly promote what they call 'giveback' opportunities. There are many events which as an intern you can get involved with. You do not need to take holiday to attend giveback events, I found this to be a really big positive for the scheme.
