Overview
In the first half of the placement I was responsible for sending out follow-up requests for adverse events to patients and healthcare professionals. In the last 6 months I worked more with monitoring the safety database, checking reports were sent correctly and interacting with business partners on case remediation. I was also involved in several projects in addition to daily work.
Skills
I developed my communication skills when interacting with colleagues, patients, healthcare professionals and business partners. My research skills improved by completing literature reviews on project topics. I also learnt how to manage and prioritize tasks when working in a busy environment.
Responsibilities
I was able to lead a large process during my placement for which I had to research, come up with proposals, present these to stakeholders then train staff on.
Support & Guidance
I received lots of support and guidance from my line manager, team managers and colleagues throughout. They were always open to having discussions about questions I had and would offer me the chance to get involved in interesting tasks they had to complete so I had exposure to lots of different areas. There was a dedicated training time at the start of my placement then I followed a set training plan for 3 months as I got involved in more tasks.
Culture
The culture was very friendly, with local and international colleagues always open to chat about their work. The company provided 2 days off for mental health as well as an hour a week for wellness activities showing how they care about staff wellbeing
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement due to the wide range of projects I was able to get involved in and the responsibility I was given. I learnt a lot about how the pharmaceutical industry operates as well as how large companies work.
