Overview
Worked on a pair project with another intern for Autodesk Fusion 360 as part of an agile scrum team. The project was to implement a feature to the manufacturing workspace of Fusion 360 which was split into several JIRA tasks. The role involved reading and understanding the huge codebase, coding in C++, writing automated tests, collaborating with the other members of the team specifically my supervisor, using git and GitHub, and attending daily team meetings.
Skills
I learnt how to code in C++ especially within the large codebase, use Git and GitHub for large repositories, learn the different workflows in place, experienced agile scrum in practice, apply OOP concepts in practice, create automated tests, make better decisions in general, gain understanding of CAM Software, communicate effectively, and work independently.
Responsibilities
Right from the beginning I was treated as an equal in the team and is given full trust to work on the assigned problems and tasks that once completed will in the future be released to all the customers of the software. I was given a lot of independence and the responsibility to ask questions rather than be stuck on something for a prolonged period of time. You are assigned a supervisor which will guide you throughout the project and who you can ask literally any questions to.
Support & Guidance
I received an immense amount of support and guidance specifically from my supervisor but also from the other members of my team.
Culture
Great company culture. There are no deadlines which leads to a relaxed atmosphere and plenty of time to delve and explore your tasks. Everyone's super friendly. There are many benefits, such as being provided top of the line equipment, really nice office, pool and table football during lunch, canteen (deli every day, special meal on Wednesdays, and free food and drink once a week), flexibility to work from home if situations arise and opportunity to work hybrid if doing a placement or grad scheme, and £600 flex forward bonus given to you in first pay check.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my internship at Autodesk.
