Overview
The interns were part of a mini-project group made up of six developers and two designers. We were developing app components alongside a real company project, with the aspiration that our components may be sold as part of the main app.
Skills
Teamwork was key during the internship, working as part of our small team including pair programming. Also, presentation skills demoing to the company, office and customer.
Responsibilities
Yes, each week a different intern ran the end of week retro meeting. We were also left to develop unaided (unless help was needed). A lot of trust was placed on us
Support & Guidance
Our trainer was always available to help and support, and the few times he wasn’t, perhaps through meetings, other people in the office were keen and willing to help.
Culture
It is the most relaxed, yet productive, workplace I have ever worked in. The company are keen in keeping morale high, there are lots of “outside of work” events to take part in, usually company sponsored
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my internship. A great mix of work and social with lots of opportunity to develop as people
Yes
It is not important if you are not the most technical person in the world. Softwire are keen on seeing how interns develop over the internship, not whether they were an expert when they joined.
