The Role
Confidence in using computers and applications like Microsoft excel increased dramatically. Had the opportunity to complete limitless amounts of on line courses to cement the gaps - a variety to choose from whether it be specific computer applications or information about the your job area. I can take the computer skills with me into future careers and go in with confidence. Had a couple of work shops that developed presenting skills that will help me with presentations that I have to do for final year modules and assessment centres.
The Company
The corner that my team and I sat in was positive and friendly. Everyone remained professional but social conversation flowed and everyone had a good sense of humor. Helped create a relaxed environment to work in and a pleasure to come into the office.
It was well organized - I had the previous Industrial Trainee set up all my accesses and requirements for my job role and then took me through all my responsibilities and I shadowed him for the first couple of weeks and then I started carrying out my job role on my own gradually. It would have been better if during the first 2 induction days if it had been explained to us what some of the basic IBM computer applications were and how to use them.
There were lots of training opportunities and job shadowing available throughout the year. I was given numerous adhoc tasks to complete and the responsibility increased throughout the year.
Company Parties/Events
Working from home
Being an IT with IBM gives you a fast track through some of the stages of the Graduate scheme application stages.
The Culture
There was a night out arranged for every Thursday. Everyone always got Facebook invites to Birthdays. Christmas, Halloween and End of year socials were organised.
The cost to go out and socialize is standard but I found with the salary and going out once a week, you save quite alot.
Again it was standard. There are places to go on specific days and lots of events to attend throughout the year at venues in the surrounding area.
There are numerous opportunities to giveback to the community whether doing fund raising, decorating a school, gardening in the local community. The industrial trainees would arrange regular football matches and there were a variety of IBM sport teams to join.
