Overview
During the Summer Vacation scheme, the first week involved a firm wide induction and training sessions to help develop required skills. We are placed in a team working on a particular engagement and help them with any tasks they need. This involves tie-throughs, checking accounts, research. We also attend networking events to meet people from different teams.
Skills
I have developed my excel skills through the training provided. With the tasks given, I have also improved my writing skills and email writing as we had to liaise with different people across our team and at the client site.
Business Insight
During the induction week, we were given in depth information about the graduate programme and the subsequent qualifications. We understood its business values, and the different community within the business which one can join. For instance, we heard about the religious communities, the volunteering, which reflected their inclusivity and their culture. As for different roles, since it was the summer scheme, we were not shown the different roles available other than our line of work.
Culture
The company has a really welcoming culture. It is very inclusive and people are very friendly- all ready to help and are willing to have a conversation. I felt very at ease regardless of the level of management of the people. From senior managers to associates, everyone was easy to talk to and would make me feel like a part of the team.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed the vacation scheme as it provided me with enough knowledge and feel of the day-to-day roles. The people were pleasant and my coworkers, people leader and buddy were all welcoming. However, the only issue was the one-off lack of communication within the firm on the first day. For instance, some of us were not entirely sure where to go on the as we did not access our work emails.
Yes
To research which department you want to go to within the stream of business you are applying. They allow you to choose and I think having an idea beforehand is useful- although I do think that any particular department is good - but just don't feel shy to voice it out as they are accommodating!
