Overview
In this programme we gained an insight into the organisation, this was done through speakers and information. For example we had one speaker, who spoke about herself, being a women in technology and spoke about women in NatWest. We also learnt about NatWest's purpose. We also had a Q&A panel with women in different business areas and they spoke about their role as well as their experience. The second day was online and was a group task in which we had to present a solution to a problem to our peers and 2 judges.
Skills
Yes I learnt a few skills on this programme. Since the second day was online and we had to create and deliver a group presentation I was able to develop many existing skills. For example I learnt to work well with people over zoom meetings, strengthening my collaboration skills. Additionally, we had to present in front of a large number of people so I developed my presentation and communication skills. On the first day we had the opportunity to talk to individuals in business areas so I developed my understanding of the business and I found this very useful.
Business Insight
They managed to make the process of learning about the business and potential roles engaging and very useful. For example we learnt all this information through speakers as well as lunchtime networking. It was very interesting learning about the purpose and culture of NatWest through a talk, and all this information was re-iterated during the lunchtime networking. Also, through talking to recent graduates about their business areas and potential roles I deepened my understanding which I found very useful.
Culture
It appeared that the company culture and general atmosphere was very good. When talking to the graduates on both days, they all had something positive to say about the company such as the friendly nature of people, or the decent working hours and many other things. This made it seem that NatWest has a genuinely good culture. Additionally, when I attended the event in person I got a sense of a welcoming culture as everyone seemed friendly and inclusive, both the employees and people on the programme.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed this insight, it was more engaging that others that I had attended. Since I was very interested in learning more about the business areas I really enjoyed this insight as there were lots of opportunities to do so. Also, we had frequent breaks in which we could talk to other people on the programme and I found that connecting with these people made this programme more enjoyable. I would recommend this programme to everyone as I really enjoyed it.
Yes
My tips would be the following: firstly be acquainted with the application process. I found that this application process was similar to others that I had done, so when I applied I was confident and knew what to expect. Secondly, I would say practice your numeracy and verbal skills. We had to complete online tests which assessed our competencies in these areas and I found that practice really helped. Finally, be prepared but be yourself for the video interview.
