Overview
The role is split across two On Air departments - Presentation Scheduling and Continuity and Navigation. Tasks from both teams will be split across the week, including completing allocated schedules for UK and international channels, editing and inputting voice over scripts for brand artists, reviewing and creating graphic plans for Sky media, attending meeting and emailing across department and company.
Skills
The role is highly operational and provides extensive training into using key software (BSS and What's On). There is also opportunity to develop confidence in speaking and presenting due to frequent meetings as well as having the opportunity to express creativity through high profile company launches. Teamwork is also essential and therefore there is plenty opportunity to develop this skill. Networking is integral and encouraged.
Responsibilities
Interns at A+E are treated as full-time workers in the company in terms of workload and responsibility in the sense that you are fully trained to be able to complete tasks at the capacity of other team members. There is distinction in the specific volume level of difficulty of tasks which does differ from full time workers. Daily tasks are identical to coworkers and there is ample opportunity to develop through launches and meetings.
Support & Guidance
There is extensive self development measures at A+E including a regular 1:1 schedule, as well as external sessions provided by the company that focused on productivity and development. There are several points of contact in the company regarding training and guidance, as well as a very approachable HR department. I felt fully supported in the role and confident to seek help when necessary. The OpenBlend and 1:1 process was invaluable as guidance tools.
Culture
A+E has a strong sense of company culture as a small media company. I felt confident to engage within my team as well as within other teams across the company. There were often company-focused events ran and spearheaded by members of senior leadership including: Summer BBQs and international summits, meaning networking can be done with ease. The company celebrates its achievements as a business but also on an individual level. The office is friendly.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at A+E as I felt from beginning to end I had developed both personally and professionally. Despite extremely busy periods such as Christmas, my teams were high supports and created a sense of teamwork and morale to achieve success. The training period is intense but also invaluable to complete daily tasks, I felt challenged but to an extent that pushed me and enabled me to develop.
Yes
I would advise individuals who intend to apply to A+E to consider if they have high attention to detail and enjoy routine in their daily and weekly tasks, as well as being creative in terms of strategy and planning. I would encouraged highly organised and self-motivated people to apply. A+E values the individual on a personal level as well as their job capability and therefore seek those who can thrive in their teams and company culture - being friendly, approachable and eager to learn and develop are key aspects of their employability success.
